HBO Hits the Road with Roger Lay Jr.

Los Angeles Film School graduate Roger Lay Jr was a key filmmaker in HBO’s upcoming documentary, Ray Romano in 95 Miles to Go.

The documentary, which Lay Jr. shot and helped produce, focuses on a stand up tour in the South that Ray Romano did with long-time partner Tom Caltibiano.

Since Romano did not want a full crew traveling with him, he had Lay Jr., who was an intern during the filming of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” travel with them. The eight-day tour covered seven cities: Miami, Tampa, Clearwater, Orlando, Jacksonville, Savannah and Atlanta. The group flew from Los Angeles to Miami, then rented a car and drove to each city. During the thousand-mile road trip, the cameras rolled approximately sixteen hours a day, capturing one hundred thirty hours of footage.

After the tour ended, the documentary was cut at Warner Bros. Studios, where “Everybody Loves Raymond” filmed. A rough cut was shown at The Deep Ellum Film Festival in Dallas, Texas and HBO's The Comedy Festival, Las Vegas. The film was completed in early 2006.
