Honoring a Legend
In honor of legendary science-fiction author Ray Bradbury’s 90th birthday, The Los Angeles City Council has declared the week of August 22nd Ray Bradbury Week. This tribute is particularly special to one LAFS alumnus who has been working with Bradbury over the past few years.
Graduate Roger Lay Jr. has collaborated with Bradbury by producing films for a couple of his most popular novels. His first project with the legendary author was a film adaptation of the renowned story A Piece of Wood. In addition to bringing additional exposure to the best-selling story, the film won several film festival awards.
More recently, Lay Jr. produced the film version of Chrysalis, which was based on the Bradbury’s book that was originally published in 1946. Since screening at numerous film festivals around the glob, the film has been released on DVD. Both Lay Jr. and Bradbury celebrated the release with a DVD signing earlier this month.
“Working with a Legend like Ray Bradbury has been an amazing experience,” Lay Jr. said. “It has been an honor helping him put some of his classic tales on the big screen.”
